Lanterns, Loss, & Light: A Night in Hawaiʻi I’ll Never Forget
During the lantern floating ceremony in Honolulu, it feels like heaven and earth are coming to gather for a quiet conversation... with You.

Hawaiʻi Will Have You Feeling Everything

Listen.

Hawaiʻi already has a way of slowing you down emotionally.

The mountains.
The water.
The scenes and sunsets that look like you’re standing in a postcard.

Creation is LOUD out here.

And during the lantern floating ceremony in Honolulu, it feels like heaven and earth are coming to gather for a quiet conversation...
with You.

The sky turns gold.
The water starts glistening.
And at the proper time--one by one--lanterns begin floating across the Pacific like tiny prayers breathing life back into the soul again.

I’m telling you now:
you can’t fully explain this experience to people.

It's powerful and humbling all at the same time.

You have to feel it.

The Moment That Got Me

It wasn’t even a huge dramatic moment.

It was actually really small. Thousands of small moments, actually.

Seen in the way people rushed to the water to lay their burden down.

Each latern lit and placed oh so gently atop the water.

Like thousands of individual prayer waiting to be heard.

By the only one who can do something about it.

Imagine THOUSANDS of laterns... Yes, THOUSANDS! (Six thousand to be exact!)

Topping that water. Prayers waiting to be gathered up.

Each person waiting their turn. Some patient. Some anxious. Each with the same goal. The same, urgent need.

A need to be known. For their loved one to know... We're still thinking about you. We still miss you. We will never forget you. We're taking care of little Joshy just as you wished.

Whew.

That thing touched me deep.

Suddenly I started thinking of my own people.

How meaningful it would be to do this for my own loved ones...
My sister.
My grandfather.
Alexis. The ones I miss.

How meaningful to let my prayers touch this water.
The prayers I’ve prayed quietly.
The things I’ve carried for too long.

How timely would it always be to let the light that lives within me to be left on the water for all to see it shine.
And for God to hear my cry.
